About Us
In January of 1991, a small group of volunteers met to form an arts organization that would serve as a clearinghouse for arts and cultural events in Brecksville. Mayor Jerry Hruby charged this group to develop a program that would provide expanded opportunities for creating, learning and enjoying new experiences through class offerings and programs.
That first year proved that an interest in this type of programming was viable. By the summer of 1992, sixty-five classes were offered, the first Heartfelt Holiday Fine Art & Handcrafted Gift Show was planned and, in an effort to increase publicity, Sample the Arts - a day to try new classes - was offered to the public. A promotional video was produced by Cablevision and the Community Chorus was rehearsing for a performance at Brecksville's Fair on the Square.
Since that initial meeting in the basement of the Highland Drive building, the Center for the Arts has developed into a well established professional center with classes and programs offered to a wide range of students of all ages. Outreach programs, scholarship offerings and increased community involvement have made the Center for the Arts an integral element woven into the tapestry of our community.
